IK protection classes (impacts)

IK protection classes (impacts)

IK is a classification of mechanical strength. It is specified in the European standard EN 62262, as well as its international equivalent, i.e. IEC 62262:2002. It is used as a parameter determining how resistant devices are to impacts and other external mechanical damage.

The standard provides a classification of the degrees of protection provided by enclosures against external mechanical shocks for devices with a rated voltage not exceeding 72.5 kV.
The table presents the definitions of protection levels and their designations.
